Questions & Answers
How many hours should we charter?
The best trips allow enough time to get into the deep waters where you will find a bigger and nicer class of fish. We recommend at least 8 hours and 12 hours is excellent if your schedule allows the time. For families just looking for a fun experience for the kids a 4 or 6 hour trip is just fine. It really just depends on what you’re looking for in a fishing trip.
What should I bring?
You’ll need to bring what you want to eat and drink because the boats don’t provide refreshments. Coolers are welcome and it is recommended that you bring more than enough snacks to eat. Also, a camera, sunscreen, hat, and change of clothes is recommended. Crackers are helpful if you’re prone to seasickness
I don’t know how to fish~
The Captain and Mate are there to help and show you the ropes. There is NO experience necessary. Fishing is fun for all ages and you can fish as little or as much as you wish.
What about cost?
The LEGEND is a great value if you’re wanting to really catch fish and not just go for an excursion. Standard rates for summer season is $100.00 to $110.00 per hour depending on type of fishing, with a four-hour minimum. Off-season discounts are available.
Reservations and a deposit are required for all trips. Your deposit will be refunded if the Captain determines the weather is too bad to fish or the winds may be too high.
Why charter a private boat rather than take a party boat?
The charter boat provides more individualized fishing assistance and usually is only a few dollars more than the party type boat. Typically with fewer fishing there is less chance you will spend a lot of time tangled with other anglers.
Is customary to tip the Captain and deckhand?
YES, Tips for the Captain and the mate are well appreciated. Both are there to make your fishing trip enjoyable by cutting bait, rigging up lines, cleaning the deck, etc. The Captain finds the fish so, if you have a great fishing trip it is customary to show your appreciation with a tip.
What about a license?
You do not need to purchase a fishing license as the boat has everyone covered for the fishing trip.
What if the weather is bad?
Weather in the Gulf is unpredictable and Captain Mike is always cautious. In the event you are not able to leave the dock due to weather we will gladly reschedule your fishing trip for a better day.
How do I get my fish cleaned?
Captain Mike’s crew is available to filet your catch and get it ready to pack and ice down for the trip home for a reasonable fee. If you prefer they can be packed in dry ice and shipped.
What about seasickness?
Some people are prone to seasickness and here are a few recommendations.
- Don't go without eating the morning of your fishing trip. An empty stomach is a sure way to get seasick.
- Bring crackers, ginger snaps, or other snacks to keep your stomach full while at sea.
- Don't drink heavily the night before. The motion of the boat will not make things better if you have a hangover.
- Plan ahead and have Dramamine or a prescription medicine for seasickness available if you are concerned. A patch is now available to be worn behind the ear. It is available without prescription.
How many can go fishing?
LEGEND can carry up to 6 passengers, the Captain, and the deckhand. Your group can be up to 6 and six people can comfortably fish at the same time.
How should I dress?
Cool comfortable clothes are best and shorts or a swim suit top to catch the rays is okay just remember to wear tennis shoes and not flip flops or open toe shoes. Fish on the deck can cut a bare foot and your footing while fishing is better.
